OpenTable Diner Reviews Reveal Top 100 Wine Lists

corks-blogAs the grape harvest continues at the nation’s vineyards, we are pleased to announce the 2013 Diners’ Choice Award winners for the Top 100 Restaurants with the Most Notable Wine Lists. These awards reflect the combined opinions of more than 5 million reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 15,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Featuring talented sommeliers and lists to impress any oenophile, the winners span 27 states and include Canlis in Seattle, The French Laundry in Yountville, California, and Veritas in New York City. Home to the nation’s most renowned vineyards, California accounts for 21 honorees, followed by Maryland with eight winners and Florida, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and Washington with five apiece. Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas restaurants each boast four winning restaurants. Michigan and Nevada both claim three winners. Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon, and Tennessee each have two winning restaurants. Arizona, Delaware, Iowa, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin restaurants are also represented. American fare restaurants had the greatest number of winners, followed by those serving Italian and tapas/small plate cuisines.

Cheers to the 2012 Diners’ Choice Award winners for Top 100 Wine Lists in the U.S.!

As the time to toast the holidays draws near, we are pleased to announce the 2012 Diners’ Choice Award winners for the Top 100 Restaurants with the Most Notable Wine Lists in the United States. These awards reflect the combined opinions of more than 5 million reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 15,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The list of winners, which includes Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, RN74 in Seattle, and Veritas in New York, spans 25 states and Washington, D.C.  California, renowned for its wine country, has the greatest number of winners with 17, followed by Maryland with nine winners and Washington with eight. Florida and New York boast six winning restaurants apiece, trailed by Texas and Virginia with five honorees, Colorado and South Carolina with four, and Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania with three each. The states of Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, and Tennessee all have two award winners. Washington, D.C. earned a single spot as did Arizona, Kansas, and Wisconsin. Dining Poll: How Often Do You Buy a Bottle of Wine at a Restaurant?

When I was a kid, my parents rarely ordered a bottle of wine when we dined out at a restaurant. Maybe that was because there were only two adults to drink a bottle — not that that’s ever stopped me. I think, really, though it was that ordering a whole bottle of wine, at the time, was something reserved for special occasions or celebrities (If they saw a favorite actor at a restaurant, instead of asking for an autograph, they would send over a bottle of wine, which I think is really charming). Now, ordering a bottle of wine — or two — has become, for many people, an integral part of the dining experience. Let us know what your habits are in today’s poll!
