Last year, in honor of Giving Tuesday, we asked you to join us in the fight to help end childhood hunger; donate your OpenTable points to No Kid Hungry, and encourage others to donate through social sharing using #PointsforKids. We are proud to announce that our community of diners showed up and showed out, making generous donations to this national campaign that provides kids with the food they need through effective in-school nutrition programs. Thank you so much!
Through OpenTable’s relationship with longtime non-profit partner, No Kid Hungry, the points donations made over nearly two weeks resulted in 2,371,985 meals*. To deepen the impact of this effort, OpenTable matched the first 250,000 meals donated by diners.
In all, there were more than 20,997 donations made by diners resulting in 42,439,700 total points donated—wow! Generously, 23% of diners who donated this year gave 100% of their points. Amazing donors like Jason Buchwald and Bob Camp collectively donated 181,700 OpenTable points. Jason had this to say on why he chose to donate:
“To think that children in our country wake up hungry, or go to school and bed at night hungry is heartbreaking. Yet it is reality. Anything I can do to help prevent that is an opportunity I would never turn away from. OpenTable makes life easier for those of us who are incredibly fortunate to dine out. What an amazing cause and way for OpenTable to also make it easy for someone like me to give back to those who need our help.”
Bob shared a similar sentiment saying:
“My husband and I have the good fortune to be able to dine [out] most nights, and it’s great to be able to give back in a small way to a food-focused organization as important as No Kid Hungry.”
We thank all of you for your generosity and for standing with us and No Kid Hungry. For more information on this incredible organization, please visit nokidhungry.org. And, stay tuned for more opportunities to support No Kid Hungry in the coming year.
