When I was 24, my Dad passed away and my mother was very ill. They lived in PHL and had 3 children under 13. I lived in CHI, I moved my mother and 3 siblings to CHI within 3 weeks, bought a house on a snowy night as I was being evicted from my apt as it was a one bedroom and I had my entire family there living with me. Within another 2 mons we were moved. Luckily I worked for an airline and I worked many shifts to support my family. Then finally at age 36 I met a man with 3 daughters, his wife had left him. I raised his daughters and helped raised his 6 grandchildren. Our marriage last 15 yrs until I found out he was cheating as he was a salesman.

Now, today, at age 65, I am happily remaried, we have no children and when Mother’s Day comes around, I think of my Mom, who died after being paralyzed for 8 years, after open heart surgery. Yes, I was the one who took care of her. I miss her everyday and am glad that I had those 8 yrs with her, although my life was hard. The caretaker has a vast burden.

Now, I celebrate going out to dinner with my husband and we celebrate our late parents. Yes, we do. No,I do not claim to be a mother, have no contact with my former step daughters as a step mother is not the true mother, no matter how hard I worked for them.

I celebrate for me too. I know what I did and how I devoted m y life to people I loved. I wish I had been able to have children of my own, but I was unable to medically.

Am I a mother? You bet.

I would love to win the $200 to take my mom out to dinner. My mother became a mom again at the age of 75!!! How you ask, my brother and his wife had a baby on June 13, 2008. Unfortunately Jackie passed away one hour after giving birth to my niece Sophia. After Jackie’s death my brother moved back in with my mom and my mom Dorothy who will be celebrating her 79th Birthday on May 17th has been mom to Sophia. My mother has the patience of a young women, she is loving and caring to not only Sophia but to all that know her. I was very fortunate to have her be my mother and I am so happy that she is taking care of Sophia. If I do say so myself, I have the best Mother in the Whole world and I love her so much.
