As we look forward to Mother’s Day and are still buzzing over our list of the 100 Best Brunch Restaurants in America 2017, we’re always looking for yet another excuse go big at brunch. These lavish spreads with a price tag to match are just the thing to take a rest on the seventh day, with a little bit of heaven on a plate. For a Sunday brunch splurge, think everything from gold-covered pizza to lobster and free-flowing Champagne in settings just as opulent at these over-the-top brunches around the U.S.
Industry Kitchen, New York, New York
Call it the Jagermeister of pizzas. Industry Kitchen’s opulent 24K pie breaks the bank and the belly at a whopping $2,000 and is covered in 24-karat gold leaves, foie gras, truffles, caviar, and Stilton cheese. It’s not an impulse buy, either — diners must order it two days in advance, the same amount of time it takes for the squid ink dough to rise. You’ll admire the glittery surface just as much as the waterside views here, where, thankfully, the rest of the brunch menu isn’t quite as over-the-top: even the luxe lobster omelet comes in at a wallet-friendly $18. Make a reservation at Industry Kitchen.
Signature Room at the 95th, Chicago, Illinois
Your eyes will be as big as your stomach at the Signature Room, where, perched 95 floors above the Windy City, hungry Chicagoans celebrate the weekend in sky-high style. You’ll find it hard to save room for their delicious desserts what with an impressive spread that kicks off with a “starters buffet” that alone would require an afternoon nap for most — think chilled seafood, fruit, yogurt, salads, soups, cheeses, charcuterie, and made-to-order omelets. But all-you-can-order entrees also include a burger with bacon, fried egg, herb-garlic aioli, and sweet potato hash, seared Australian lamb chops with red wine Bolognese, and braised short ribs. Since you may not require another meal for the day, consider the $50 per adult price tag ($25 for kids 12 and younger) a solid investment. Make a reservation at the Signature Room at the 95th.
SoBou, New Orleans, Louisiana
Bigger is better at SouBou in Nola, where the $45 Big Hooch community cocktail served up in a giant flask gets Sunday “suppers” in the mood to whoop it up during a three-course “legs and eggs” Burlesque Boozy Brunch. It’s a feast for the eyes with renowned burlesque dancer Bella Blue performing with a live jazz band, paired expertly with chef Juan Carlos Gonzalez’s fried quail and foie gras waffles with boudin-stuffed game bird, a sunny-side up egg, and foie-infused cane syrup. Make a reservation at SouBou.
The Belvedere, Beverly Hills, California
Sure you can enjoy the all-you-can-eat brunch at the Belvedere for $85 — but what fun is that without the free-flowing Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne bar for an additional $25? The bubbly complements locally sourced seafood including oysters, lobster-topped Yukon gold potato and tarragon waffle, lump crab salad on brioche, and hand-carved stuffed and roasted leg of lamb for landlubbers. Follow it up with pastry chef Stephanie Boswell’s peach profiteroles or baked French toast. Make a reservation at The Belvedere.
Queen Mary Champagne Sunday Brunch, Long Beach, California
A trip to the Queen Mary is like stepping back in time — especially when you consider executive chef Todd Henderson’s menu that pays homage to the ship’s travels all over the world and her ports of call. Think Italian dishes, Asian specialties, fantastical French desserts, and an “over the sea” buffet complete with one of Henderson’s signature items — an entire poached salmon serpentine with dill garnished with fresh lemons. “I think you go back in time when you come here and sample some of the food items that may have been onboard during the glory days of sailing,” Henderson said. Don’t forget the piece de resistance: a toast with a traditional Champagne glass, the likes of which celebs from Liz Taylor to Winston Churchill would have raised for live entertainment in the Grand Salon. The Hollywood price tag is $60 for adults ($70 on holiday weekends) and $25 for kids. Make a reservation at Queen Mary Champagne Sunday Brunch.
